Flourish! School Food Society brings nourishing change to the way students eat and learn about food in schools. They provide supportive services to help build nourishing food environments in schools, including fun, nourishing meals, thoughtfully sourced grocery items, and food literacy programs.

Flourish was born from its founding collaborators: the Victoria Community Food Hub Society, the Capital Region Food Share Network, The Mustard Seed, Farm to School BC, and the Sooke School District #62. These founders worked together in the 2022/23 school year to create the Setting the Table school food pilot project, which aimed to feed 200 students per day for 100 days across eight schools and build the systems to support a flourishing school food program in the Sooke School District.

The Victoria Community Fridge in Rock Bay is a project of the Community Food Support Initiative, a mutual aid organization with the goal to make food free and accessible to those who need it. The fridge operates on a “take what you need, leave what you can” basis, where everyone is welcome to take whatever they need from the fridge, whenever.

In 2022-2023, the Community Fridge partnered with the South Island FarmHub to use grant funding to purchase local produce from the FarmHub webshop, which was delivered to the fridge.
